This year the snow has fallen early and in quantity in Les Contamines. Sunshine was forecast and although the lifts are not yet open we had a great desire to ski!
We decided to get up early and go ski touring from the bottom of the Lay gondola. The snow conditions were favorable and the snow groomers had already started to prepare the slopes. The climb was pleasurable! The ski area was virgin white and we were extremely keen to ski the fresh powder.
After a few hours with skins and several conversions to skis, we reached the top of Roselette. It was midday and time for lunch! The wind was cold but the setting was sumptuous with views of the Mont Blanc range. We reminded ourselves how lucky we were .
It was soon time to start our descent. We choose to ski down the ‘Olympique’ black, not yet groomed and hidden under 40cm of fresh snow! Unfortunately the cloud rolled in but off we went, making our first tracks as we headed on down this long run towards the village. A moment of pure pleasure!
