Marie Marchand Arvier , nicknamed “MMA”, approaches the winter season with great ambitions. Determined to shine on the World Cup circuit, Marie also stands a good chance at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
Hi Marie, we are only a month from the start of the Downhill World Cup. The first race is due to take place in Beaver Creek in the US, are you fit and well prepared ?
“All is well. I’m looking forward to racing in the United States . ”
Last season you finished 28th in the overall World Cup rankings, how do you judge this performance?
“I had a very up and down season last year. A podium, some good races but also several falls. However, that is in the past now. I have been preparing hard for this season to optimize my performance. »
Is your training programme similar to previous years? Have you been working on specific areas for improvement?
“I chose to work hard on my technique to avoid falls and gain in self-confidence. I am also well mentally prepared, leaving nothing to chance .»
Can you tell us a little about the atmosphere within the French team and especially about Tessa Worley after her exceptional season last winter and her World Champion Slalom title in Schladming?
«We train in two different groups. As concerns our group, things are going very well and the team spirit is healthy and competitive. »
Which is your favorite slope?
«In Les Contamines, I love l’Olympique. In Europe, Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy is my favourite.”
What are your goals for the season? The Olympic Games?
“My goal is to win an Olympic medal. Everything is focused around that! »
Do you have a ritual before racing?
“Not really, I’m just focused on what I have to do. »
Do you enjoy any other winter sports ?
“I love sport in general, all winter sports as well as many others such as tennis, squash and athletics .”
Thank you Marie! We wish you all the best for the coming season.
