NICOLAS RAFFORT, A YOUNG LOCAL WITH PROMISING RESULTS

, June 30th 2015, No comment, 772 vues.

Since childhood Nicolas was a gifted skier. Age 6 he came first in regional competitions and over time successfully established himself in the world of downhill skiing. Easily accessible and extremely humble, we recently chatted to him…

Where do you come from? Who are you?

I was born in Sallanches and have always lived in les Contamines-Montjoie. I am 23 years old and a member of the French Ski Team on the World Cup descent and Super G circuit.

Tell us about your career path so far?

I trained with the ski club in Les Contamines. Some good results in the French Championships (category Minimes) enabled me to join the Committee Mont-Blanc. I stayed with the Committee for seven years before joining the French Ski Federation in 2013. I spent a season in the B Group before moving up to the A group last spring.

In school in Le Fayet, I followed a sports curriculum. I passed my Baccalaureat at the French training camp in Albertville and I am currently in my final year of further education in Annecy, studying business.

What are your main strengths and those that you have developed during you career as a skier? Perseverance – I experienced several difficult seasons due to multiple injuries. Starting from scratch and rebuilding everything certainly isn’t easy and definitely helps to forge a personality. High-level sport requires autonomy, knowledge and professionalism.

What were your goals this season?

My goal this season was to score points in the World Cup rankings and enter into the top 30. Unfortunately I had knee problems in the spring that prevented me from physical preparation. A cracked cartilage delayed my start to the season so I only began racing in early January. I’m still currently not 100%.

What are your long term goals?

In the long term, I aspire to progress in the world rankings and make the podium in World Cup and Olympic races. Let’s hope I have no more injuries. Skiing remains a risky sport!

Do you have other passions in life?

I’m passionate about sport in general. Apart from specific physical preparation, I play great tennis and golf in the summer. At the end of each season I take a few weeks break to go surfing. I like movies and music and I play a little guitar when I have time.

A last word to the conclude?

I wish to thank Les Contamines-Montjoie for all their support.
