The end of the winter marks the start of the cycling season. Zoom in on Marine Strappazzon, a bright young local on great form!
Hello Marine. Where are you from and what do you do?
My name is Marine STRAPPAZZON. I’m 20 years old and I’m from Les Contamines. I’ve been cycling since the age of 6. I also competed on the downhill ski circuit but when it became necessary to choose between the two sports, I choose cycling. However, I continue to ski from time to time to in order to qualify as a ski instructor.
What are the main qualities you have developed during your career as a sportswoman?
The sporting life isn’t easy every day, it’s a way of life that one acquires throughout ones career. My life not only demands physical effort on the bike, it also requires strict eating habits and good management of recovery in order to compete from one event to the next. One also has to manage course tactics that can swing a race at any time. It’s not necessarily the best athlete that wins a race but often the smartest!
I would say my main quality is that I always fight to the end, whatever the cost, be it in training or in competition. I can’t say that I don’t like the climbs, I do. However, I prefer the short steeper ones!
What are your goals for this season?
This season, my main goal is the French Championships as well as the different French Cups.
What are your long term goals?
To represent my country and place myself among the best French women on the circuit.
Do you have other passions in life?
Yes , I like skiing and other sports in general. I also enjoy moments of rest, the opportunity to spend time with my family and my friends.
A last word to conclude?
Thank you les Contamines-Montjoie for all your support! 😉
